There’s nothing like new art supplies to spark your creativity, am I right? This summer I’m going to be visiting a bunch of National Parks, and I wanted to up my pen game so I got some to try!

Here they are, plus some waterproof inks:

  • Kaweco Piston Sport with a broad nib (Amazon) — the piston makes it super easy to fill, and I love the window so you can see how much ink is left!
  • Kuretake Mannen Mouhitsu (No. 13) brush pen with a nylon nib (Amazon) — this one has a similar feel to my trusty Pentel brush pen, with a slightly smaller nib.
  • Platinum converter to use with the Kuretake No. 13 that I used to convert it and fill with my own ink. (Art Toolkit) (Amazon)
  • Moonman Majohn Wancai Mini Fountain Pen (Amazon) — this small but mighty eyedropper pen holds a TON of ink! I put a little silicon grease on the threads and I plan to keep it in a plastic bag until I’m sure it won’t leak. It gets really good reviews!
  • Sailor Seiboku ink (Amazon) – a really pretty blue ink!
  • De Atramentis Dark Red Document ink (Art Toolkit) (Amazon) – I love this color, kind of a reddish rusty brown.
  • De Atramentis Blue Grey Document ink (Art Toolkit) (Amazon) — this is my favorite alternative to black. I have it in a little leakproof 2 oz Nalgene bottle.

I chose these pens for their small size so I could add them to my hiking sketch kit. Plus they’re so cute!

I’ll report back after I’ve tried them for a while!

Note: The Amazon links are my affiliate links and I’ll receive a small commission at no charge to you if you make your purchase by clicking the link — thank you so much for your support!

New pens, left to right: the tiny Moonman, Kaweco piston sport, and the Kuretake No. 13. The Kaweco is a little over 6 inches long for refrence.
